For evenly golden brown, crisp-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside toast, cold start your bread slices and then let them slowly toast once the oven hits 350°F (177°C). Finish with a quick blast of steam to soften the toast just a touch.
Note: This method works well with pre-sliced sandwich bread, sliced artisan loaves, and split English muffins. If you’d like more or less color than what you see pictured, adjust the cook time in the first stage.
