For evenly golden brown, crisp-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside toast, cold start your bread slices and then let them slowly toast once the oven hits 350°F (177°C). Finish with a quick blast of steam to soften the toast just a touch. Note: This method works well with pre-sliced sandwich bread, sliced artisan loaves, and split English muffins. If you’d like more or less color than what you see pictured, adjust the cook time in the first stage. If you find that the results from this method are too dry for your liking (everyone likes their toast cooked slightly differently!), try waiting to add the bread to the oven until after it has preheated.
